I bought this shirt-dress-tunic thing from J.Crew forever ago. I like it, but I can only remember wearing it twice in the year that I’ve had it, and sometimes I wonder why I bought it. It was, omg… on sale, so of course I had to. It got me thinking about how many things I purchase just because it was on the sale rack. I never thought of that being a reason for making a purchase, but if I’m being honest, I know I’ve used it. “It’s only (x amount)! I’ve gotta have it!” In reality, when things go on sale, it’s probably been marked down to the price you should be paying in the first place. That’s how they get ya. Women can’t resist a good percentage off or coupon code though. “Free shipping?! Now I can go buy that $248,564 dress I’ve been wanting!” What a deal.
I can recall a time or two going through my closet to make room, and getting rid of items with the tag still attached. I think that really says something about the reasoning for my buying it in the first place. Clearly I didn’t need it, because I had it for who knows how long without wearing it even once. I’m not saying it’s bad to buy things on sale, I’m saying it’s probably not best for your wallet and closet to buy things because they’re on sale. Surely I’m not the only one who’s done this…
